Talkie Toaster MkII from the Red Dwarf episode 'White Hole', one of the best episodes ever and up there with my all time favourites.
Spent too long analysing the patterns on Talkie's "screen(?)", even went so far as to look at Box from Star Cops (since that's where that particular array of LEDs was seen first). In the end I painted a grid of which LEDs were lit for a small sequence of Talkie talking, and used that animated texture to drive the emission in the model.
The rest of the textures are a mostly procedural but there are a few bodged together out of various CC0 textures I have, a roughness here, a diffuse there, that normal please.
I'd just like to note too, that Talkie is a two slice toaster, this is just about visible in the episode and in one of the potato quality BTS shots available on Google, which is interesting because I've been going along with the fan art and stuff with one big slot you'd get a baguette in. While looking for reference online, a forum post indicated the model was built by Andy Bowman of BBC VFX.
Animated to David Ross' iconic performance.
